One year down (almost)

I'm gearing up for my last year of grad school. Next Monday I sign up for my summer and fall classes, and I'm looking forward to my upcoming schedule. It rocks.

This summer, I'm taking an environmental reporting class. Our stories will be published in the Lawrence Journal World, on the lawrence.com website, and as local TV news stories. All kinds of good portfolio opportunities there. Plus, the teacher for that class is awesome, which is rare for a summer course. The only *slight* issue with it is that we'll be reporting on water issues for the city of Lawrence...and my dad was the project manager (back in the 1970s) for the water treatment facility out here. Oops. Hey, at least I know where to find a primary source of information. It's all about who you know, right? Yeah, that should be interesting... I ran it by the old man, just to give him a head's up, and after grumbling about it a bit he said that's fine. Then he started complaining about how inaccurate some reporters are when they cover stories about science/engineering/whatever and take things out of context and don't even know what they're writing about or what questions to ask, blah blah blah. It was kind of funny. I feel for him, though, and agree that it is very annoying when that happens.

Anywho, next fall I'll only have to be on campus two days a week for work and classes, thanks to a big chunk of my schedule being independent research for my thesis, and the other classes I take or teach all fall on the same two days. Nice. Even though I'll only be on campus twice a week, I will still be quite busy the entire week. Those other days are not days off for me by any means. I'm going to have to be disciplined enough to make myself work on my own, though...scary. But for now, I need to get through the rest of this semester. I wish it was spring break again...
