Overview of Portland

I'll wrap up here about my trip to Oregon with just a few bullet points, then I'll let the photos tell the rest of the story:
  • Portland has an excellent public transportation system (and it's free in the downtown area). KC needs to take note.
  • There are some very interesting characters who ride the light rail. One guy informed our train that he was "basically the Einstein of computers." A couple minutes later he said to another rider, "Well, if you don't know about computers, the expression for that is 'computer illiterate.' I know that phrase because of all of my training in computers." Einstein, indeed. Amanda and I were in the presence of greatness, people. I should have gotten his autograph.
  • On Saturday, we took a brewery tour, went to the Saturday Market (an arts fair they have every weekend) and stopped by Powell's Books, the largest independent bookstore in the world. The bookstore was overwhelming and had nowhere to sit and read, so we didn't stay long.
  • On Sunday, we visited the Chinese Gardens, the Japanese Gardens, and the Rose Test Garden.
  • Bees like roses. I do not like bees. Therefore, the rose test garden was not the ideal place for me, but I was brave and went there anyway.
