The coolest show ever made

Superbowl Sunday I ended up leaving the party I was at before halftime to go home and do homework. I was grumpy about it and tired and didn't want to do my !@#$ assignment, but I went home anyway and finished my stupid homework. And then I turned on the TV to discover what is quite possibly the greatest three hours of television ever to be broadcast: The Puppy Bowl III on Animal Planet.

It. Was. Amazing.

Three hours of adorable puppies playing and chasing each other around on an indoor football field with campy background muzak. There was a "bowl cam" that showed the puppies drinking from a water bowl from the perspective of the bottom of the bowl. So cute. And when something exciting happened, like one puppy tackling another puppy, they would do an instant replay in slow motion. Sometimes a referee would come onto the field to refill the water bowl or clean up a potty spot or trade players/puppies. Every now and then they would cut to the fans watching the Puppy Bowl from their party, which was a bunch of puppies tailgating in lawn chairs. I'm telling you, it was so stinking sweet. The halftime show was kittens playing together (away from the puppies) on scratching posts. Even though I'm allergic to cats and try to avoid them, I must admit that those kitties were really, really cute.

One might think that three hours of puppies running around a field would get tedious, but OH NO IT DIDN'T! It was mesmerizing. Once I started watching, I just couldn't stop. It triggered all of the happy-puppy-watching endorphins in my brain. Amanda, Janelle and Brandon came home once the (boring) Superbowl was over (yawn) and noticed the joyous cornucopia of puppies on our TV. Amanda and Janelle did not show nearly enough appreciation for the brilliance that is the Puppy Bowl, but Brandon knew what was up: he loved it, too. I always knew he was cool.

Animal Planet has a DVD of the Puppy Bowl and I want it...then I could watch it (all three hours of it) after a bad day and revel in the puppy pick-me-up. Aw.

Here is an awesome clip of the Puppy Bowl off of YouTube. The best part of this video is the person behind the camera (at home, taping this off TV for YouTube) whispering, "If I talk, it's going to be on the recording." And then a couple minutes later you can hear someone in the room snoring. But, it also shows a fun clip from the Puppy Bowl, so prepare yourself to witness overwhelming adorableness:
